Welcoming Home a Rescue Kitten from Critteraid: A Purrfect New Addition

If you’ve ever considered adding a furry friend to your family, now is the perfect time to adopt from Critteraid Animal Sanctuary in Summerland. With over 70 cats and kittens currently in need of loving homes, Critteraid is calling on the community to open their hearts—and their homes—to these sweet animals.

We recently welcomed a new little one into our home from Critteraid, and while our resident cat, Pretty Beans, isn’t thrilled (yet), we’re taking it slow with the introductions. It’s a process filled with patience, treats, and lots of love. Watching our new kitten settle in, learn to trust, and start to play has been an incredibly heartwarming experience. We decided to call her Oreo for now, if we change it after that it will be because of her personality but right now she is so sweet just like a little cookie.

If you would like to see how we combine family, daycare, pets, and more check out our instagram @WhatTheFunkUp where we post everything about our family and businesses. Picking a niche was too hard so we are a lifestyle influencer family!

We were looking to get Beans a friend for a while because she is super lonely when we are all at school or work. Here are some great tips on adopting
a new kitty friend.

We looked high and low and found that the best way to go was rescue. Introducing Critteraid. Critteraid is a non-profit organization that relies entirely on donations and volunteers to care for the animals they rescue. They provide a safe haven for animals of all kinds, and they go above and beyond to ensure every pet is healthy, safe, and ready for their forever family.

If you are interested in finding ways to save on owning a cat you can read this great post about how we save on our pet products.

You can also put in the work and make a lot of DIY cat toys and beds out of boxes and bins that are always free if you go to a store and ask.

Why Adopting a Kitten from a Rescue Like Critteraid Matters:

You save a life—and make room for another animal to be rescued.

It costs less than buying from a breeder or pet store.

The adoption fee includes vet care, such as:

First shots

Spay or neuter surgery

Microchipping

You don’t support unethical breeding practices, like kitten mills or backyard breeders.

You’re helping a non-profit that relies on community support to continue their mission.

Rescue kittens often make the most grateful companions—they’ve known hardship and are eager to love.

Volunteering at a shelter can be a rewarding experience if you’re not quite ready to adopt.

At only $250, the adoption fee is an incredible value, considering the cost of just one of those vet visits elsewhere.

How You Can Help Even If You Can’t Adopt:

Volunteer your time to help with cleaning, cuddling, and socializing the cats.

Donate funds or supplies like food, litter, or toys.

Spread the word—share posts, tell friends, and encourage others to visit Critteraid.

This kitty is named “Seven” and she is a sphinx cross. She is at the cat sanctuary living her best life.

Critteraid isn’t just a shelter—it’s a community of animal lovers working together to give every cat a chance at a better life. Critteraid takes in horses, cows, goats, pigs, and more. They are an all animal sanctuary, saving the lives of all animals. They are a no kill shelter so, if any of the animals don’t get adopted they will never be euthanized, unless they are ready to cross the rainbow bridge due to illness or age. If you’re thinking of growing your furry family, consider adopting from them. You won’t just be gaining a pet—you’ll be giving a home to a soul in need.

Visit Critteraid’s website or their Summerland sanctuary to meet your future best friend.

  1. Such a beautiful post! Adopting a rescue kitten is such a rewarding experience, and it’s great to see Critteraid doing such important work. I recently read a post on Fit Living Tips about the benefits of adopting pets—both for the animal and for your well-being and it really resonated with me. A rescue kitten brings so much joy, and it sounds like Critteraid is the perfect place to find a new furry friend. Wishing all these sweet kittens find loving homes!
