Getting married is such an amazing event, when it finally happens. I never thought I cared about getting married until I got engaged and then the feeling sunk in and I actually began to get excited about planning the whole thing. My husband and I have been together for over 20 years now and have only been married for 3 of those years so we weren’t completely sold on the idea of marriage. I am so glad we changed our minds and decided to have an amazing family style camp out wedding at a local lake.
Choosing the right bridal wedding dress was super important to me as I don’t wear girly clothes very often and I have my own unique style. I wanted to keep my theme in mind as well which was a combination of wonderland, camouflage, and skulls. I chose a very pretty white and woodland camo dress that I had tailored to suit my form. Wearing white was such a great choice as it made me stand out among the crowd and feel like I was a princess!
There were multiple places to search for a unique dress I never thought of at first. I wasn’t sure if I wanted secondhand or brand new so I started looking at stores to see what drew my attention. There were many styles and colour combinations that struck my eye but I still wanted to stick to my theme. I found multiple dresses online through Etsy, Poshmark, and EBay. You can search for the exact wild and crazy themed dress you are hoping for and the options flow for miles. I found my camo and white dress from EBay and my lovely mother in law paid for it for me because she was so excited that we had finally decided to get hitched.
When it arrived it was definitely not fitted exactly to me so I had to spend the extra $300 to get it taken in and did the same for my wedding party as well. I was able to find all camo attire for my entire crew and allowed the others who weren’t part of the wedding party to wear whatever they wanted. Comfort and relaxation are the only way to have your guests feel like welcomed part of your family in my eyes, so I wanted everyone to wear casual clothes and feel like we were all just celebrating together.
For my modern bridesmaid dresses I chose matching styles but allowed them to each choose their own colour as long as it had camo on it. The men all wore white shirts and camo vests. We all wore running shoes and stayed comfy as it was a mainly dirt surface throughout the camp grounds. Everything was found online through eBay and Etsy for very decent prices so no matter what theme you choose there is always products to be found to make your dreams come true.
If I had parents I would have had them wear matching outfits as well but I had my grandmother walk me down the aisle and she took her time looking at mother of the bride dresses. She finally settled on a very casual light green summer dress.
Our wedding was a dream come true and I was flattered by the amount of family that showed up to be with us. I rented out the entire resort and paid for buffet style meals for the full 3 day weekend! We had 100 guests and had so much fun that we were so proud and overwhelmed with emotion. It was a day to remember and we have amazing photos to commemorate for the rest of our lives.
