We love to enjoy the festivities that our town puts together every year for Canada Day. Celebrating the beautiful country we live in is a great way to be patriotic and show the newer generations the importance of community and socialization with all walks of life.
I love getting my kids involved with all the events and taking great pics of h to em trying new things and having fun. This year my daughter and I went to cultural day and learned about countries around the world. We filled out a passport for every booth and got to try food from around the globe. My favourite was the sweet rice and spicy onions from Pakistan.
We also got to learn about different relics and artifacts from hundreds of years ago. The knives, house keys, cooking tools, and blankets were all quite amazing. They had been restored to look nearly new but were found in tombs and burial spots from around the world.
We entered into draws for prizes, got to learn about cars and motorcycles, played in the foam pit, bouncy houses, Velcro wall, elastic band race, little paddle boats, listen to great music, and enjoy the company of the others in our community.
The show and shine is a cool car show that people from town love to enter to show off their amazing vintage rides and muscle cars. The entrants get to be awarded with prizes afterwards and get to enjoy talking about their amazing whips. I loved showing my kids what cars used to look like and seeing how things have changed over the years like seatbelts, huge trunks, they even had a drive in tray attached to an older car from the 50’s to show how drive thru food used to be served.
I loved the food trucks and I think my favourite has to be the butter chicken poutine from Shaddap N Eats. We also got the mini donuts from the donut truck as well as Kona Ice shaved ice to cool off.
Live music is played all summer long for music in the park as well as park play days for the community to enjoy. Memorial park just keeps getting better every year and now the library and city hall are right next to the field and swimming pool. As our city grows I can’t wait to enjoy more exciting events and see how everyone adapts to the growth and increasing cultures.
The next big event we will be covering is called Westside Daze and it is one of our favourite events for our town. The fair is going to be here from Shooting Star Amusements, live music, parade, kids fair, food trucks, drone show instead of fireworks, and much more. We will be there to enjoy the entire weekend from Friday July 12 in the evening to Sunday July 14 in the evening and look forward to sharing how amazing the event is and why you should come and visit West Kelowna.
