Home Emergencies: Quick Fixes If You Can’t Replace It

We have all had a problem arise where we simply didn’t have the resources to completely replace an appliance or fix a leak, repair our home or replace something that has broken. Many times you have to make do with a quick fix until you have the resources to completely solve the problem.

If you have an appliance that’s not working correctly it is probably ready to be replaced. In the meantime there are other options in a pinch.

So what can you do if you can’t repair your dryer in time, you get a clothesline of course.

If your roof is leaking and needs to be replaced, you can get it repaired for the time being.

If your car isn’t running right you can take public transit.

There are ways to get around difficult situations and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Bide your time and make do with what you can for now.

Do your windows need to be replaced? Try sealing them with clear poly during the winter until you can afford to replace them.

When you find yourself in a more difficult situation that might affect your family or home life it may be time to reach out to other sources. As a renter you have lots of rights that protect you and keep you happily living in your home. Your landlord has to replace certain things if it is a necessity and they can even be forced to pay you rent back or not charge you if they haven’t done so.

If you are a home owner you can get help from the bank if you are eligible. There are reverse mortgage loans that you can take out on the equity of your home. If the situation is dire it may be in your best interest to get the problem fixed right away. Many provinces and states have grants available through the government as well.

Always try to build a strong bond with friends and family in case you need support in other ways. We all need help sometimes so don’t feel bad when it’s your turn to ask and always be the one to offer when you can!
