Holidays that might get overlooked: the National Fetish Day

This January 21st wear something purple to connect with the like-minded people

There is a day honouring every aspect of our lives. So, not surprising that there is a day devoted to celebrating all the wonderful, weird fetishes. The third Friday in January is National Fetish Day, and LELO is here to tell you that any kink you have is completely fine. Well, as long as it’s legal.
The main purpose of International Fetish Day is to increase awareness and support of the fetish community, a variety of erotic practices, and other interpersonal dynamics.

International Fetish Day is designed to encourage community members to be more open about their sexuality. Fetishism is often wrongly perceived as sexual deviancy, and those with a fetish consequently might come to believe that their affinity is weird, wrong or even disgusting. It is not.
In Fetishism, the subject of desire is not necessarily related to sexual intercourse, yet the fetish drives a person’s sexual arousal, fantasies and preferences. Fetishes can be part of a healthy and playful sexual life for individuals and couples and form the basis of some sexual subcultures.

Although human studies on fetishes and atypical sexual interest are few, research on non-human animal behaviour have revealed some insights about them and how they may develop. On National Fetish Day, we celebrate this community and the vast array of fetishes, from foot fetishes to oviposition, etc.

What are some of the most special fetishes?

Macrophilia. Or individuals deriving sexual arousal from a fascination with giants or a sexual fantasy involving giants. Such fantasies may include the macrophiles themselves shrinking in front of a normal-sized person (male or female).

Coprophilia - arousal to faeces. Poop arouses some people. Have you ever watched a movie where someone tells their lover to poop on them? What would you do if you were ever put in that situation?

Frotteurism: arousal to touching a stranger surreptitiously in a crowded place. *cough cough* Side eye at men at Yaba market.
Xylophilia: arousal to wood. Not the wood, but timber, carpenter style :)

Stygiophilia: arousal to the thought of hellfire and damnation. Taking the “go to hell” to a whole another level.
How Can You Celebrate?

  Wear purple!
It allows members of the fetish community to spot each other while otherwise dressing ‘vanilla.’ Why purple? Purple is a colour widely used in the BDSM culture. The ‘Perverts wear Purple’ slogan was missed by a British MP in 2008, who accidentally lent support to the cause!

Get Involved in the Fetish Community
A munch is a social gathering for those who are interested in BDSM. They are usually held at restaurants or bars and do not involve ‘play,’ just meeting and talking with people who have the same interests, so they’re great to go to if you’re a curious beginner. If you have an invite, these casual meetups aren’t to be missed! They’re a great, low-pressure way to meet similarly interested folks in your area – and probably required if you want to get invited to a play party later on.

Head to (or Host) a Play Party
If you’re already involved with your local fetish community, there will probably be something planned for International Fetish Day, but why not host your party? We have plenty of tips for doing exactly that from a world-renowned sex party hostess that will guarantee a good party – though you will still worry about having enough refreshments, there’s just no way to get around that.

Spoil Yourself (and Your Partner!)
If you’re more in the mood for a private celebration, then why not do pick up something new for your particular fetish? That could be a new collar if you and your partner are into pet play, other submission types, or new impact implements if your tastes lean more toward masochism.

Those on a budget can look around the house for creative ideas that add fresh new twists to their fetishes – but if you’re looking to splash out, then look no further than the LELO’s collection of luxury BDSM products! Its wide range of individual products and sets offer a little something for everyone – plus, many come with a hint of purple, perfect for this holiday!
