Beetroot Powder – Delicious Weight Loss

Losing weight is an age-old battle, and for anyone who has tried to drop a few kilos, you will know the word "battle" is more than appropriate. Exercise and healthy eating play a large part in reducing weight, and keeping it off, but science has found that factors such as internal inflammation and digestion problems can override all your hard work. That's where the potent nutrients, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of beetroot powder come in.

Beetroot powder nutrients

Beetroot powder is a rich source of essential nutrients. It contains Vitamins A, C, B-6, and folate, and minerals such as iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium. It is high in nitrates, contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and is high in antioxidants called betalains. It contains 0% fat.

Weight loss properties

Apart from supplying the body with a range of vitamins and minerals, beetroot powder is also a friend when it comes to weight loss. It helps reduce weight in a few interesting ways.

Beetroot powder has a detoxifying quality that helps maintain liver health. The liver is essential for weight loss in that it produces bile which breaks down fat and flushes it, along with other toxins, from the body. A liver that doesn't function properly can lead to fat build-ups in the liver itself, but also in other parts of the body.

Inflammation, particularly in any part of the digestive system, can cause weight gain and an inability to lose weight. The result is that all your dieting and exercising culminates in nothing but frustration. Beetroot powder has two types of powerful anti-inflammatory compounds – betalains and nitrates. Betalains diminish inflammation by destroying free radicals and thereby reducing oxidative damage to cells, while nitrates contribute byridding the bloodstream of toxic substances that cause inflammation.

Beetroot powder aids digestion. An efficient digestive system helps prevent weight gain and bloating by assisting the body in using the nutrients it extracts more effectively. The slower the food we eat moves through the stomach and intestines, the more calories the body absorbs. Calories are an essential energy source for us, but if our body absorbs more calories than it needs, the excess is stored as fat. Beetroot powder can help boost our digestion, keep us regular and help the weight stayoff.

Finally, research has found that beetroot powder can help eliminate water weight and, consequently, bloating.

How to incorporate beetroot powder into your daily life

Beetroot powder is a convenient way to add extra weight loss nutrients into almost anything you can think of. Beetroot powder is tasty enough to stir into a glass of water and drink for a quick pick-me-up at any time of the day or night. Adding it to a fruit smoothie or fresh vegetable juice is even better.

For the gastronomes among us, sprinkle some over a salad, or add it to the dressing for an engaging, highly nutritious twist.

And while beetroot powder may lose some of its potency if cooked (heated), you still get some benefits if you add it to a curry or a casserole. And who could say ‘no’ to a slice of sweet, vibrantly-coloured beetroot cake? Add it to your pancake mixture, to your biscuit dough.

The possibilities are endless because beetroot powder is that versatile.

A final note

To be as delicate as possible…if you’ve never had beetroot powder before, you might be alarmed by beetroot-coloured urine and darker stools. Have no fear. This is perfectly normal. In fact, it means the beetroot has been absorbed and is busy doing its thing.
