Want to move on a budget? Here's how!

If you’ve ever moved home, you will already know how stressful it can be. And most of that stress is because it’s just so expensive! However, it is very easy to keep all your costs down during the big move. Saving money on the move can also help you stay very organized. Want to know how to move on a budget? Here’s how to do it.

Find A Good Moving Company

There are lots of moving companies up and down the country, such as Copper Palm Moving. To find one that is right for you, make sure you call a few different ones so that you can get a range of quotes. This will help you see which companies can do the job within your budget. There are a few things you need to consider while looking for movers. If you are moving quite far, or across state lines, you might need to find a firm who specializes in long-distance moves.

Don’t Buy Boxes

You will need plenty of cardboard boxes for your move, and they need to be big enough to pack up all your things into. Most people buy specialist moving boxes from local supermarkets. However, this can be a big waste of money. It is much more cost-effective to try and find second-hand boxes. If a friend or relative has recently moved home, ask them if they have any spares. You should also begin to save any boxes you get from online purchases.

Batch Cooking

Many people forget to think about how they will cook in the days running up to the move. If you are well-organized, you will have packed all your things up at least a week before you move. That will make cooking very difficult! So to make sure you don’t rely on expensive ready meals and take outs, you should do some batch cooking before you pack everything up. This way, you will have meals that you can heat up for your next few dinners!

Pack Fragile Items Well

If fragile or important items are broken during transit, you may spend a lot of money replacing them. If they have sentimental value, you may not be able to replace them at all! So be sure to wrap delicate items in lots of soft materials to provide them with some padding. If there are any large spaces in your cardboard boxes, fill them with soft materials so that items don’t move around too much. If something is super fragile, keep hold of it during the journey.

Sell Your Stuff

If you need some extra cash, think about selling some of your stuff. This will raise money for the move and also reduce the amount of things you need to pack up. Furniture should sell very well, and it makes sense to sell your old stuff if your new home is coming furnished. Take a look through your books as well, as they can often sell for quite a bit of money.

And that’s all there is to move on a budget!
